xx _-Witch of Karesh-_ Tainted Lands
« Thread started on: Aug 28th, 2009, 4:08pm »

Long has it been since her exile from her foreign home, Karesh. Though a fierce and clever warrior with the aid of both a slim physique and knowledge of the several herbal poisons, she was not a match against the entire Karesh pack, not alone anyway. Only with the aid of her blindly loyal enforcer could she poison the Alpha, kill the beta and assume command of the pack there. Life was good, for a while, until a foreign interloper came to 'awaken' the Karesh pack. His strength was unmatched. With the enforcer dead, the interloper offered Dengarr a choice: Fight and die, or accept exile. The choice was obviose for a survivor like her, exile. There will always be a chance to fight and take revenge, as long as she was still alive. That is how dengar began her quest for the mountain of ancient lore.

She could feel strange energies pulsing through her, ancient magics. The evil taint of the land sang to her black soul like a thousand wolves crying out to her. 'Give us vengence, give us glory,' cried the durge of the dead wolves. Dengarr raised her head and added her voice to the chorus in a piercing howl.

Then she felt a need to leap into the sky. She couldn't explain this urge; the energies that filled the air were at work. Dengar let her wolf body go, leaping high and fast into the hazy sky. Dengarr felt a ripping throughout her entire body as two eight foot wings exploaded out of her shoulders; wings of bleached-white bone and thin membrain. The wings complimented her skeletal physique and white fur as if she were born with them. The heat erupting from the ground filled the air with thermal pockets, lifting Dengarr high into the air quickly as she spread her massive wings. She looked down on the world below. "So this is what true power feels like," she said as she searched for the appropriate spot to start her pack. She would have a pack. She would not accept anything les than Alpha.

Boredom. Yes, it was upon her again. Cortana padded along the blistering hot gound, deep pink eyes glancing about lazily. The large white and pink striped wolfess seemed unperturbed by the heat, though her coat was hardly thin. It was nothing compared to other conditions she forced herself into. Life at The Brotherhood was of the interesting variety. Surely you needed some level of masochism to live there. Training was brutal, the inhabitants of the old abandoned monastery even moreso. And at the very top of it's hierarchy, Cortana sat above them all; the most brutal, the toughest, and possibly the most masochistic of them all. At leasts that's what she'd been told.

For her, training was a pleasure and battling a treat. Cortana got no greater pleasure than when she faced off with a worthy opponent, though a less worthy one did just fine for the sake of amusement at times. By far, the fem's favorite past time was duking it out with her mate. Blade was, of course, trained by her, not to mention raised by her. Sure, many might think it sick that she fell in love with a pup she'd raised for a friend, but when it happened to you it was a whole different story. They had so much more than most pairs on the mountain, even going so far as developing a telepathic link. Blade even shared the fem's love for a fight and power, stood at her side in The Brotherhood and never against her. These were the things that made her happy; love, power, and a good fight. However, Blade was busy right now, power wasn't exactly a past time, and she didn't feel like sparring much with those she was familiar with. Her last toy had fled like a pansy after she killed his pup in front of him...

In her boredom, Cortana wondered vaguely what had become of Villo. Of course, if she really wanted to take an effort, she could tract the coward down and have a bit more fun. But, for some reason, she didn't have a taste for Pansy today. No, instead she craved something a little stronger. There was nothing wrong with torturing a weakling every now and then, but finding someone actually worthy enough to waste words on was always a pleasure. There seemed to be an abundance of newcomers to the mountain, and the pink and white wolfess was rather curious to see if any matched her tastes. Even if they weren't candidates for joining The Brotherhood, if she could make a few more strong ties it was all for the better.

Deep pink paws halted as the fem's ears twitched at a howl, pink tipped tail flicking idly a few times. Cortana's eyes searched through the rising smoke, spotting no one nearby. Changing course by a few degrees, the wolfess jogged directly toward the unfamiliar voice, glowing pink orb bouncing on a leather strap that hung around her neck. It began to swirl with a majestic purple color, Cortana's personal color of mischief. A smirk spread across the fem's face, white feathered wings russling noisily with her excitement. A new person, a new face to meet. She approached in time to see the other, a skeletal female of white, leap into the air.

Leaping wasn't exactly Cortana's style. Instead, the wolfess teleported straight up into the sky, spreading her wings and gliding toward the other silently. A charming smile crept over the fem's maw as she closed the short distance, slowing her speed as she came beside the other wolfess. "True power?" Her voice seemed contemplative as she jumped into the stranger's personal conversation much as she did with everyone elese. "You know, I thought the same thing my first time around here. It's quite nice, isn't it?" The fem tilted her head, deep pink eyes raking over the other's body quickly. The skeletal look wasn't particularly Cortana's thing, but it seemed to work for this fey, gave her a certain... image.

Dengarr cringed her nose in disgust at the friendly tone of the stranger. Was it not clear that she was not the wealcome wagon type? Had she betrayed her posture in even the slightest manner as to tell any onlooker that she might be friendly? The very thought of giving off that impression put a foul taste in her mouth.

She eyed the intruder carefully with her pale yellow orbs of eyes. If it wasn't her general appearance which changed the mood, the eyes would usually do the trick. No pupals; there was nowhere to look in those soleless, evil things. Her skull of a wolf head turned slowly to meet the intruder's eyes. No change in the face of the intruder, she was either confident or stupid. Judging by her size and apparent strength, it was not the later. Either way, this would be a good opportunity to recruit.

Dengarr's large wings held her in place effortlessly, due mostly to the heat. Heat, it was her foundation for the first time. 'My pack shall be called Fire,' she thought to herself.

"Nice... I have a tendency of killing the nice, and destroying nice things," spoke Dengarr in an almost snear. "If you are here for 'nice' reasons I suggest you go. If you are here for cruelty, then I invite you to stay. I shall be forming a pack, one of power and of ruthlessness." Dengarr looked the newcomer over again. "I am Dengarr, Witch of Karesh. You appear strong, I may have use for you. Tell me about this mountain; tell me of the pure of whom I may corrupt. Tell me of the rightious ones which must be slain." Dengarr's black lips curled back in a sinister smile.

Oooh, scarey eyes. Cortana's smile only grew as she met the stranger's gaze, mischievious and daring. The pink and white fem glanced over the other wolfess once more, completely at eas with herself. What was with these new people and threatening her? Did they all have a death wish? Needless to say, the wolfess was rather amused and it showed in the glint in her eyes. Tucking her wings to her sides, Cortana managed a carefree barrel roll before deciding to respond. "You have a problem with nice?" She asked, turning her eyes back on the stranger. "Oh, wel then again, you probably mean the 'nice' as in the stereotypical sense of the word. I assure you I have a very different opinion of what's nice than most."

Cortana turned her attention forward, stretching out a deep pink paw before and surveying her claws with bored nonchelance. "And as far as the killing part," she shrugged, a cruel smirk replaced that mischievious smile. "You're certainly more than welcome to try." Looking back to the white wolfess, the fem tilted her head in interest. This was proving to be an interesting acquaintence; someone that shared a sense of cruelty. It just seemed that this other wolfess wasn't one for facades and masks. Well, neither was Cortana really, but she had a habit of playing with her victims. However, very quickly, the word victim was being worked out of this encounter.

"A pack, you say?" Cortana raised a brow, something finally capturing her interest. If this fem was starting a pack, she was definitely interested in hearing about it. If there was anyone on the mountain privy to the ins and outs of leaderships, the wolfess like to think of herself as the one. She ignored the mention of uses for the time, thinking to herself that this stranger had it very backwards. If anyone tried to use Cortana, they were going to be sorely disappointed; much like Lestat had been when she turned his plot for destruction around on him at the last second. Instead, the pink and white striped fem decided answering questions wasn't a bad idea. "This mountain? What is there to say? It's a mountain, engulfed in an acient power that hardly anyone knows the origins of. The corruptable pure? I'll get to that in a minute," a grin spread across Cortana's face, a particular canine coming to mind. One who'd recently lost his pack. One of her members had recently run into to brute and informed her of his impressionable state. Perhaps this fem might have uses for him. Surely Cortana didn't want a broken soul, she didn't settle for damaged goods. "And the righteous that you can slay? They litter the terrain like mosquitos. I don't think you'll have much trouble running into them on your own."

There was a pause, the fem's mind working like clockwork on how best to word her next phrases. "Now, about the corruptable," Cortana took on a rather business-like tone, nodding once to herself on the subject change. "What would you say to a broken soldier with a broken heart? He was once pure and happy, but current circumstances have left him lone and damaged. Would that pique your interest, my dear?" Though she tried her best to be serious, the fem's face spread in a cruel smile, evil intention made clear. Sure, she may not get any first hand seat in this predicament, but being invovled from afar was fun to some extent. It was always a pleasure to be the reason behind turmoil.

It was clear to Dengarr that the large pink-striped wolfess with which she was speaking was merely faking kindness. Underneath the candy-coated exterior lurked a bitterness. It was also clear to Dengarr that this wolfess was not about to bow to a master any time soon, let alone a newcomer to the Land of Power. 'This situation must be handled delicately,' thought Dengarr as she washed away any notion of recruitment.

A grin pulled against the black lips of the wolfess, revealing her large teeth in a sadistic smile and replaced much of the menace of her tone, choosing instead to speak matter-of-factly. "I sense great malice within you. We are amused, but know this, I have no use for friends. Rather, I have only subordinates and allies. All others are considered enemies. I am no fool though, you are clearly not a subordinate, and it is not in my best interest to make quick enemies. Do tell me more of this 'broken soldier'. I am eager to play my role in a potentially deadly alliance... from a distance. Tell me... everything."

Dengarr's wings pivoted in a way which seemed strangely natural, causing her to drift slowly toward the large wolfess. Her face was still and emotionless, ears forward, ready to absorb every word the wolfess had to offer.

Not in her best interest to make quick enemies? Oh, Dengarr, you have no idea. Cortana's deep pink eyes took in the white wolfess for a long moment, resisting the urge to smirk and laugh wildly. This wolfess was most... amusing. The way she spoke suggested that Dengarr was better off being a lone wolf, yet she insisted on leading a pack. That made one thing clear, Dengarr sought power over physical comfort, something the pink and white stiped fem could actually admire. Yes, Cortana liked obedience, but she also encouraged a certain amount of free willed thinking within The Brotherhood. And although the fem's original thinking excluded friends and love from her life, the wolfess had to admit that she actually found them quite thrilling. Love, she had it for only one other canine than herself. And friendship? Well friends were few and far, but the ones she had she wasn't going to lose anytime soon.. Really, though, she could only think of one true friend.

Oh well, everyone calls their own shots. Dengarr just seemed to split her catagories into three. Cortana had no intention of being a subordinate to anyone and enemies? Well, she didn't believe in enemies, only in those who fought against her and those who did not. It was a simple indifference to sides and trivial mortal thinking. However, allies sounded like an interesting option. She decided to choose this path, knowing at any time she wished Cortana could always just turn the tables. That was her job, wasn't it?

"His name is Seg," the wolfess began at long last, cutting to the chase with a cruel smile. "He was the Alpha of the pack known as Ice, for a very long time in fact. Apparently he made some bad choices, pissed off the wrong wolf, and bam! All down the drain." The smile widened into a grin, picturing her summary in her head. She'd watched it all from afar, like some sadistic kind of soap opera. "His Beta, all but a brother by name, lost his friend due to this wolf's choice. And this Beta, a completely normal wolf by every means, left after Seg didn't want to take responsibility. Five months later, the Beta came back to challenge Seg, only he wasn't a normal wolf anymore. It seems like he came back with a lot of magic and muscle. Well, anyway, long story short, Seg lost. Lost his pack, lost his family, lost everything. He was given the choice to stay under the new rule, or leave. He left, and that's where one of my people found him broken and probably rather impressionable."

The last word was almost purred, growled in a desirable way. If Seg wasn't so broken mentally, she might have already sought him out herself. However, The Brotherhood just wasn't a place for damaged good. But if Dengarr was interested in obedience, impressionable wolves were easy to get that out of. "And your view is?" the fem's voice drew out, a brow arching in interest.

"Interesting," Dengarr pondered for a moment. Her brows seemed to crush down upon her skull-like face for a moment, narrowing her ghoulish eyes. "That's enough to work with." she said, shifting out of her business tone and into a more casual one, "Men can often be counted on to be maliable, thick as they are, but I grow tired of talking about this Seg. I shall make my evaluation upon viewing him. At the moment, I'm far more interested in present company. Tell me about yourself," inquired Dengarr as she stretched out her massive, bat-like wings.

So this Dengarr was interested in knowing about Cortana, eh? Cortana's cruel smile grew, deep pink eyes moving to face forward. "Well, what's there to say?" she sighed, feigning exasperation. "I'm a selfish thing, really," Cortana's pink paw came to rest over her brow, pads turned up, in a dramatic batting of her eyes. It dropped, though, a smirk spreading along her lips. "I gain amusement out of other's suffering. Really, it's like a past time for me." Her tone was light and casual, bringing about that everyday nonchelance people use when saying they like to walk along the beach and watch the sun set. "Let's see, I value power and strength within others. Of course, I must, being the leader of a brotherhood of assassins." The fem shrugged in an offhand way, as if that were completely normal. "Hmmn, well I was in the last war. But I grew bored of Lestat's plans and made some of my own. He didn't do too well in the end, and the devistation wasn't as he planned either. Guess he shouldn't have underestimated the wolves in his company. Silly dog." What else was there to say? Really, if Dengarr wanted to know anything else, she'd have to find out for herself. Cortana swayed back and forth, enjoying the breeze that ruffled her outlandish coat.
