Character in Play: Saiyan

The white wolfess had broken away. That light was strange and brought back memories she'd once thought lost. It made her uneasy. Saiyan didn't want to relapse into madness. It had taken a lot to bring her out of it, and the old fae didn't want to go back to it. Sure, Terrwyn and Lolita would be there for her, but it didn't change the fact that she didn't want to be in the place again. So, after that light disappeared, Saiyan took a detour from the mass gathering to investigate. She ended up trekking down the side of the mountain in which the lava flow had made its way boiling out. She didn't know this tale.

Her icy blue eyes looked over the scarred land. The scent of ash and molten rock was strong. Saiyan crinkled her nose. Not a smell she was fond of. The elder wolf paused in her steps, gazing out over the wasteland. So much pain... The white canine stepped carefully, noticing cracks here and there. She might've been old, but she wasn't about to fall to her death on shaky ground. The ash dusted over her pristine white paws. She didn't care for the dirt on her fur. This place... She cringed thinking about what could have happened.

Saiyan never knew there was a fault line in this area. Apparantly there was. Even in the darker days of her youth, the fem would have never considered something like this. It was one thing to lead a war party, another to destroy the land itself. That was a strike to far. "Monsters far worse than I apparently come with new generations," she said quietly, still stepping carefully through the volcanic wasteland, avoiding hotter spots to avoid burning her pads.

Character in Play: Vendetta

Where were they?

The black, white, and red brute jogged over the ash, large paws with their white toes carrying the mammoth of a teen quite gracefully. On a black leather strap tied around his neck bounced a red feather, the symbol of his mother's family. It wasn't hard to tell where his bloodlines were from as long as you had ears, eyes, and a decent brain. Black Rain and Flaming Rose were fairly well known on the mountain, both for their ranks and for Ice Pack. With his father's size, his mother's necklace and an appearance that shadowed both lightly, it was difficult to mistake him as a child of the alphas of Ice.

Vendetta's icy blue eyes narrowed through the rising smoke, courtesy of the savage collie Lestat as his mother told him. He hadn't been around at the time of the war, not even a thought on the horizon, yet he'd learned his details from his parents and various warriors from his pack. It was one of the reasons he'd sworn himself under his grandfather's tutoring most of his childhood and why he graced Ice's training ground regularly as long as he could. If there were to be another disaster, he wouldn't be stuck on the sidelines waiting for the outcome.

But past wars were hardly an issue at the moment. Something had happened to his sister and he needed to find his parents now. Following scents was useless, as they left a very scattered scent trail behind them. So the brute was traveling on hints. His father had mentioned something this morning about a light before leaving the den and his mother had come home and left when she found her mate missing. So, perhaps they were both up the mountain where he heard there had been a beacon. As far as he'd seen, there was nothing. But.. who knew?

The wolf froze, spotting the white fem off in the near, hazy distance. She seemed to be making her way down from the mountain top, perhaps the peak. She seemed as good as anyone to ask about the whereabouts of his parents. The tall canine picked up his pace to a lope, gliding through the haze quietly until within hailing distance of the fem. He stopped short, catching the words from the wolfess' mouth. She seemed depressed, perhaps upset about something. His mid paused it's mission for a moment, tail giving a half-hearted wave.

"You don't look like any monster I've ever seen, Ma'am" Vendetta said quietly, voice innocent and conversational. Hopefully he wasn't interrupting any important thoughts of hers... Or angering her with his presence.

Saiyan continued her way along, trying to figure out where she'd head next after examining this place a little further. It took her a moment to notice Vendetta. Her ears flicked at his words. She couldn't help but smile. It was a smile one would only expect from a sweet grandmother, something the white fae had become, much to her own surprise. "Maybe not now, but death, age, and madness can change a wolf," she said in response.

It was true. Death, twice, growing old, and having slipped into madness did a lot to change someone. Saiyan had the privelage of experiencing all those things, and did not care to experience any of them but death when the black figure came for her. Her tail waved a bit. This young wolf was young enough to be her grandchild by the look of him. His size might betray his age slightly, but there were only two familes that produced wolves of that stature. Lone Zelda, her own, and Black Rain's. Saiyan was quick to deduce this one belonged to Black Rain and his mate, Flaming Rose. Both his appearance and his scent confirmed that.

"You look like you're looking for someone," she said with a tilt of her head, "Any way I might help? There was a large group of us up at the peak. Though I don't know who is still up there and who has already made their way down."

The young brute shrugged half-heartedly with a charming smile, icy blue eyes keeping their friendly, conversational tone. "Death? Overrated," Vendetta said, mimicking a board expression. Both his parents had died, his mother several times in fact. It was common knowledge to him that things that died weren't necessarily gone for good. Creatures died and were brought back to life on Wolf Mountain all the time. "Age?" the teen continued. "You don't look a day over three, Miss. And madness... If you ever fell into it, you seem quite well now."

Though he was sure his flattery wasn't necessary, V couldn't help but catch some kind of depressed, maybe even scared, undertone to the old fem's expressions both in word and body. He was curious, to say the least, as to what was ailing her; even more curious as to why he even cared. It was strange how his father's influence popped up here and there in the outside world. At home, he was a normal, angsty, somewhat violent teen. But his public self, well, it was the spitting image of his father with some very minor adjustments. A little more seriousness, a little less trust... And there you have Vendetta.

At the wolfess' question, Vendetta's mind shifted and he gave the white fem an appreciative smile. "Ah, no," the brute gave a somewhat defeated sigh. If his parents had gone up to the peak, they'd be long gone once the party had started to dissipate. His father wasn't one to stand around, and his mother was about as still as a ray of light. "Well, I was looking for my parents," V continued, shrugging. "But I'm sure they're far away by now if others already departed." The brute planted his rear heavily on the ground, frustration showing slightly in his movements. It wasn't extremely important that they come home right away, he supposed. Not with Nibel seeing to Nova's wounds. But he knew he should at least tell them if he could find them.... eventually.

"How about you?" Vendetta pried, icy blue eyes locking onto the fem's gaze. "You looking for someone? Something?" He was curious, after all. And it was in his blood to help if he could.

Saiyan laughed lightly, "5 maybe." He was cute for a youngster, she mused for a moment. Definitely what she wanted out of her own pups. Instead, the white wolfess got it out of one of her grandchildren, Arturio. That was what she saw when she looked at Vendetta. Not completely trusting, she could see it. Nearly 10 years gave one a little bit of insight. Though her grandson, probably a year older than V, did have a lighter side at times. Her tail waved though, it was nice to hear compliments. Flattery didn't get anyone anywhere with her, but that didn't mean she didn't like to hear it.

His parents, looking for them only confirmed her suspicions. Flaming Rose and Black Rain were there, and the only ones amongst the group that could have even potentially been mates. "If everyone departed around when I did, they've probably headed to their next destination," she said with a reaffirming nod. "But from up there, the Wilderness was in view for the first time, and a strange field were visible. Perhaps they went there?" Saiyan offered.

"As for me, I have found everything I can in my life. Though this place, I don't know its story," the elder fem said, waving a paw indicating the broken land on which they stood. Vendetta was young, he may or may not know. It was worth a try. "And how about a name, youngster. Mine is Saiyan," the wolfess said, a grin creasing her muzzle.

The young brute shook his head slowly from side to side, a humored smile on his face. "Wherever they are, it's going to take me a while to pick up their trail again," Vendetta said with a small laugh on the end. "They're not the easiest wolves to follow. It wasn't hugely important to get to them right away, though, so no worries. I'm sure they'll be home soon enough." It wasn't exactly defeat that was in his voice, more accurately a reluctant acceptance of the facts. With a shrug, V moved on to different matters.

"Everything, huh?" the tri-colored teen challenged her statement with a smirk. "I don't think life is something to conquer. Perhaps there is more for you to find." The large brute's tail gave a wave, a simple flash of black, white, and red. "The name's Vendetta. V for short, I suppose." There was a pause of silence as V collected his thoughts, trying to recall what his parents had told him about this place and what had happened.

"I'm told it was the doings of some crazy collie called Lestate," Vendetta began, icy blue eyes looking past Saiyan as he pulled out the story from his mind. "There was a war, but really that was all just a distraction; I'm also told he's fond of doing that. While he had others occupied, that collie had a team of dragons and followers boring deep into the mountain where there was rumored to be a dormant volcano hidden. Things were going his way, but something went wrong. Nobody's really sure what happened, but his progress was halted near the end. Those who had found out about Lestat's secret initiative came to stop him and attacked him. In a last, desperate measure, the collie broke the thin layer of earth and stone that had yet to be breached, causing, what is assumed, to be his death and a small rupture. The aftermath wasn't nearly as bad as it would have been if he fully succeeded, but these lands still paid dearly. The ground underneath the wast is still quite hot from the lava even after nearly two years."

V took a slow breath, brows narrowing as he turned his ice blue attention back to the white fem. On his face was a sympathetic smile, tail giving a small wave. "Of course this was well before I was born, so I have no idea if my parents gave me all the right story," Vendetta said with a shrug, a pleasant smirk much like his father's returning to his features. "Still..." he ventured, ears twitching in attention. "I wonder what halted Lestat's progress. I mean, I heard everything was going smoothly according to his plans right up until the end, then suddenly... stopped."
