Strider was quite frustrated with himself. He had challenged for the gatherers but dropped out at the last minuet, suddenly changing his mind. For some reason, he just felt as if that pack wasn’t right for him. And so he sufficed with the life a loner once more, drifting in and out of places and never settling down at one place. Of course, he saw a few packs on the way but never did he think of joining them. He was not the kind of wolf to submit to others easily, and no way was he going to bow down to some pesky Alpha. But after a long time of mulling things over in his head, he decided that he would try to take over a pack once more. Not yet though. He needed to be prepared, and one thing he wanted to do was discuss things with a female he had once met.

The golden pelted wolf strolled along a strange place. It was a wasteland of sorts, covered in pits of bubbling lava and scorching flames. He flinched back every so often as a whirlwind of sparks flew his way, and once in a while he would stop and just watch the amazing display of red hot liquid spurting up all over the place. But Strider was here to find someone, and so he continued walking at a fast pace, legs strong and quick as they strode along the dirt. Hopefully he would seek who he was looking for. He hadn’t seen her in a while.

Rebel too was rather frustrated lately. Nothing was going on, her brother had left before she could teach him his lesson and Seg the so called Alpha of the back she “belonged” too was nowhere to be seen and hadn’t been for several months. Lust, Rebel’s mother, even was growing impatient while trying to wait out the Alpha trying to work on the pack lands for her father. That was hard to do, Lust was a patient fem and calculating, the brute she had bred with once to insure that the pack grew and so that she could gain some political standing in the pack was nothing… The beta ran the pack land more than the actual leader, something that everyone in Fire Pack was quick to pick up on. There was going to be a few changes if and or when Seg returned, least Rebel hoped so. She liked her grandfather’s ideas of disturbing the rather cozy peace on Wolf Mountain as of late, he was ready to move even if everyone else was shirking their promised duties to the brute. There was a lot to get done, and Rebel wanted to see it be done… Her mind turned around to the brute she had teased and met at breeding then. A strong brute though after he felt better he had disappeared and that was the last Rebel figured she would see him. It was a pity, she went there to play but in the end she rather liked Strider. No, she had too many other obligations, being tied to Strider would make things much harder for the fem… After all it was the main reason why she had left Karasu and their two pups… She couldn’t be tied down.

The Volcanic Wastelands were close to Fire pack and often because of the danger and power felt in the lands, Rebel stayed here instead of the Fire Pack. It was secluded and hardly ever was the mostly black fem disturbed here. She liked that, and as the silver eyes of the fem moved over the lands even today that proved to be true. No one was here, perfect. Laying under a dead burned tree the white striped fem continued watching the embers fly into the air and listen to the soft gurgle of lava. It was like water to the fem, though much more deadly. It was then that in the distance her eyes spotted the golden colored brute in the distance. She couldn’t really believe her eyes as the form moved over the Volcanic Wastelands. Surely the heat haze was playing tricks on her. She stared at him, eyes not leaving as brute continued around the lands, before she stood up to get a better look. She didn’t speak at first, or really do anything but a sly grin did cross her maw. It was Strider, she knew it. So he wasn’t gone. Something inside her felt relieved and very happy, but at the same time annoyed. Where was he and who was he to go and vanish like that!? Her hackles rose lightly as she started her way quickly towards Strider. The ever changing lands kept her on her toes, but she still managed to stop on larger lava flow away from the honey and brown brute.

“Why hello there, Sir, you seem to be lost.” The black and white striped brute said lightly silver eyes locked onto the mismatched eyes of Strider.

He paced back and forth, getting uneasy. Why he expected to see her here he did not know, it just felt right. Plus he had followed any bit of scent of hers he could during their time apart, and eventually found that her strongest scent trail was here. It seemed a bit of an odd place to go though, everything was so dangerous and ominous. Actually, on the other hand, Rebel seemed like the sort of female who would indeed go somewhere like this. She seemed different from the other females he had met before, that was for sure. She didn’t really seem to care about getting into trouble or ruining her image. Nobody had willingly helped him out before, she had to be the first that had actually showed some compassion for his well being… not that she really could have cared for him.

Strider eventually caught something fresh on the wind. But yet, at the same time, it wasn’t fresh. It smelt familiar. And when the scent got stronger he realised who it belonged to. Because it smelt distinctly of Rebel. The golden pelted brute immediately let his jaw drop, because he hadn’t really expected her to come at all. But she was coming towards him; not only could he smell her but now he could see her, calmly strutting closer. He was very glad that she had came: Strider had rather missed being in her company, even if it was him who had left her alone those months ago. As she approached he kept his features serious though, so that she wouldn’t see that he was very glad to see her.

“I’m not lost actually. I was looking for you.” he nodded to her, pausing. “And there’s no need to call me sir. You know what my name is.” at this point a small smile slipped past his emotionless mask, but he soon set his maw straight, in a serious line. “I would actually like to discuss something with you. It has something to do with…. Fire.” He chuckled darkly, not knowing if she would realise what kind of fire he wished to discuss. He was actually referring to the pack fire, and he wanted to know more about it. He had his reasons, very good reasons indeed.

Mismatched gold and blue eyes scanned her thoughtfully. She hadn’t changed much, he was pleased to know. He had got a bit scruffier, collected a few scars and such, but he was still the same. Strider had, as usual, got into many scraps over the weeks, but his body was able to cope with the bruises. Most scars healed over very quickly nowadays and Strider still had a long way to go before he stopped receiving wounds. He was just the kind of wolf that attracted trouble. Or just maybe, trouble attracted him. He wasn’t entirely sure whether he liked fighting or not, because it had become a way of life for him now. He fought to survive and that was how it had always been, ever since he was but a yearling.

As fire and lava swirled around the pair, making him slightly hot, he faced the female and sat down, admiring her a little. The way she held herself was quite attractive, and he found it alluring that he had finally met a woman who could stand up for her gender. Rebel seemed more determined and feisty than most- even more so than most males he had met. Strider actually had a bit of a thing for her though he would never admit it.

Rebel looked the golden brute over for a moment before she responded once more, and was also pleased to see little had changed with him too; in fact it looked like much was the very same. He was more scruffy and ragged perhaps, still looked like he was taking on the bad end on some fights and that amused her lightly. At the very least he wasn’t half dead this time. She chuckled lightly at his response after mentally taking in the changes, it was funny, several months had passed and now he decides to look for her? Well it happened sooner or later she guessed. “Really now? That’s surprising, surely you don’t need my help again now, least it doesn’t look like you do.” She circled around him once for good measure, a playful, yet still devious grin on her maw as she did so. But she stopped dead when Strider had stated it was about Fire. “Well, well, well Strider it appears you may need my help then if you are here to talk about Fire; if you mean the pack land that is.” She was pretty sure that when they last met she had said she was from Fire pack… Kind of.

At this her own look turned more serious though still curiosity was etched in every fiber of her being. What was he planning now? Oh to probably go off and try and kill himself again. Rebel thought on Seg, the packs “alpha” he was old, but blessings were finally slowing the process down for him not to mention he wasn’t green when it came to fighting, but his recent track record wasn’t good he wasn’t even around after all, Makurayami did all the work. “What is it that you want to know about Fire, and why?” She asked very curious to what her friend what trying to get his paws into this round.

{{Gah, I don't mind!}}

He stood straight as Rebel spoke to him and then started circling him playfully. His golden eye watched her, narrowed, until she walked round to his front again and stopped dead at the mention of fire. She was obviously very thoughtful at the mention of the word, as she started to think for a while before she asked him what he wanted to know about Fire. He also said nothing for a while as he silently wallowed in between the caverns of his mind, deep in thought. Still, Strider trusted this femme for some odd reason and so he told her what he was planning. A couple of months back, I challenged for The Gatherers. I got into a fight with Dakota but I had no blessings, and in the middle of the fight I realised it was a mistake. For I am no spy. I realised I didn’t want to rule a pack of sly creatures and plus, I needed to train up for what I was up against anyway. He paused, his tail held high and swishing lightly in the breeze. And so I practiced my skills, and collected a few blessings. I studied other packs and then I decided that Fire looked the most weak. It seems the wolves there are not bonded as well as others and the beta does more work than the actual Alpha.

He locked his mismatched eyes on Rebel so that he bore into her, daring her to repeat anything that he said to another. I need more information though. Your in the pack, yes? Of course, if you liked the pack I wouldn’t be targeting fire but I noticed you didn’t seem that happy about it last time I saw you. He didn’t really expect her to help him willingly; after all she had saved his life those months ago and he had done nothing to repay the favour. So he decided he would bargain with her. If you give me the right sort of information about the packs Alpha, I will be able to take the pack as my own. But if your wondering what’s in it for you, I guess… revenge. I figured your not too happy about your mother impregnating herself with the Alphas pups. And plus, if I did become the alpha, I would rank you the position you deserve. He was thinking of, if he was successful, ranking her the gamma or at least a beta. But of course, there was already a beta of fire and so he was a bit uneasy about the whole thing. However, he had become quite besotted by Rebel. He would willingly make her his Queen if she accepted him as her mate. Yet, he wasn’t sure if she liked him that much. Strider had never been very good at reading females.

Rebel could tell he was thinking of how best to tell her what was on his mind. After all with any mistake the fem could up and leave on him. She didn’t like fools after all, and as he stated what he had done probably soon after she had healed him her eyes narrowed slightly. “Right, well at least you high tailed it out of there before you got your tail ripped off and handed to you.” She stated with a smirk not really believing that he thought he had the ability to take on an alpha after seeing what she could do and she was no power house when it came to blessings. However, not everything he had done sense was foolish, his reconasance of other packs had provided him with some good information and what he stated about Fire was very true. Even Rebel was just thinking about that herself. Perhaps this was a Gift from the Mountain returning Strider to her. Even more surprising was that he had been gaining blessings, she wanted to inquire on which ones but left it for the time being. Another time she would see just what he had gained. “You would be right about Fire then. Our Beta Makura does almost everything there, from chasing out the weak from talking with the members to see just what they were doing. I have more allegiance to her than I do Seg.”

Her silver eyes didn’t leave the mismatched orbs, her tail flicked taking the look as that he trusted her to keep this to herself. Why would she tell anyone else? He was doing what she was wishing she could do… “You would be right again.” Rebel sat down and gave a bit of a shrug, “I hate how Seg takes care of nothing and is never around less its breeding time.” That literally was the most he had done, bred with the females he wanted in his pack, Rebel’s mother included, though Lust wanted that for political standing reasons… At his offer for information on Seg and repaying him she felt a large grin spread her maw. “I’m not happy about that, but that is none of my business who she lays with at night.” The fem offered with a shrug, “There is no revenge about it; you would be paying me back enough just by getting that old gitt off his throne.” She said with a feline flick of her tail. “Otherwise really there is no need to pay me back.” The ranking position did sound welcoming however, but Makura was a great beta and Rebel would not replace her if that was what he wanted… “What is the information you want.” She was well aware that he might be surprised by her willingness to betray her pack alpha, but as she thought earlier she held no Allegiance to Seg, just the back and Strider would be better for the pack than Seg.

At the narrowing of Rebels eyes and at the voice of her harsh words he smirked lightly, shaking his head so that his golden fur flew out in tendrils, catching on the wind. You underestimate me, Rebel. You haven’t seen me in action yet. Once again he flashed one of those rare grins and then his face fell solemn again, his tone low. Yet, yes, I agree I was foolish to attack her without blessings. I am confident now though, however. He nodded subtly, the movement hardly noticeable after she had told him that what he had found out was indeed true. He was glad to hear that she held respect for the beta, more so than the alpha, and that made him think. He needed to keep the beta on his good side, he needed to keep her beta if he won the pack. Maybe Rebel could run with her as the other beta; but he would rather Rebel join him as his mate first. He would just have to see…

Strider listened intently once more as Rebel said something about the Alpha which made him snort and emit a short, genuine burst of laughter. They then exchanged some more words and Rebel finally agreed to help him out with the information he needed, asking a much wanted question; just what did he want to know?
He gulped and then sighed, collecting his thoughts before asking her. He needed to get the questions just right. After all, he probably had little time to get this task done… fire pack would probably heed word of his attempt to maybe challenge pretty soon. First things first… who, and what is Seg? Do you know him as a person? Is he cruel and full of malice or is he a gentle wolf? Anyone would know that the main rule of battle was; know your enemy. Another thing; what are his weaknesses? Do you know any? Strider sat down and lowered his voice more than it was already. Is his pack loyal? Would they mind if he was overthrown? What members should I watch out for? he paused before letting her know of his final display of questions. And lastly, do you know of any blessings he could use against me that would seriously damage me or even kill me? Does he have the death blessing? He had learned all he could about blessings, and thought that death sounded the most deadly out of all of them.

When Strider had finished asking his questions and waited for Rebel to answer them, he stood up abruptly. Strider locked eyes on Rebel and opened his mouth as if to say something to her, or ask her something, but then it was as if he’d suddenly changed his mind as his maw snapped shut and he shook his head. He felt as if he would save his feelings and what he wanted to talk about with her for later; after he had received the outcome of his battle.

Rebel listened to the brute with a rather bemused look on her visage. Well he wasn’t dead least he could be thankful for that much, and she was too even if she didn’t want to outwardly admit it. She liked Strider, he was strong and intelligent, when he put his mind to it, and though he was a bit aloof he was still the strong type of personality she looked for in brutes. In a way he was like Karasu, but he wasn’t goody-goody or clingy by the looks of it. She put that out of her mind; there she went fantasizing about something she really didn’t want. It wasn’t that she didn’t want a mate someday, but most certainly not when she wanted to run all around all the time and cause hell left and right when she could. She was a free spirit afterall, and she wanted to be a part of this revolution that was coming to Wolf Mountain thanks to her very own Grandfather’s paws. “Well at the very least you learned something and now you are ready. Though I think Seg is on a higher level than Dakota.” Rebel informed lightly, she wondered, if Seg found out and Strider lost if she would be killed for betraying them. Hopefully it wouldn’t matter.

As the brute laughed about her comment she shook her head. She was being serious, very serious in fact. It was almost horrible to admit but Rebel knew it was the truth. She sighed lightly, giving a rather embarrassed look, before listening to his rather large list of questions. He really was trying to plan this attack out wasn’t he?

She comptimplated his first question, who and what is Seg well… “Seg is a pretty old and short wolf… he’s about nine years old, but thanks to Mitternacht he is gaining back some of his youth… He used to be alpha of Ice until Black Rain decided his judgment was lacking and challenged him. Defeated him too, fairly easy I heard…” She paused taking a breath before continuing. “I don’t know him as a person, my mother said he’s a pretty bitter brute, he wants revenge on Ice and my Grandfather is playing on that, it was my Grandfather who also helped him take position of Alpha of Fire. He used to be a very kind wolf back in Ice but since his defeat he has been dark and cruel. The only ones in the pack that are probably loyal to him are some of his children. The ones he has “chosen”, Viridia, being the main one then perhaps Ravana the wolf who is training her. Then the dragon’s belonging to Seg and Ravana also might prove difficult to deal with, though if you stay on Makurayami’s good side she should defend you. She’s not happy with Seg, nor is the rest of the pack from what I gather. After the tie between Sin, an old member there who attempted to take the pack, there has been more and more unrest with the members, most I think, wonder if things would have been better if Sin would have taken over instead of leaving.”

She gave his blessings a thought, he had several blessings, but the one that kept standing out what how he tried, at the very end of the battle of Black Rain, the Death Blessing. “He has a death blessing… At least I’m pretty sure he does and he’s not afraid of using it either.” Rebel said, “That was the final straw with Black Rain who luckily had a Death Stop blessing on him and Seg passed out leaving Black Rain victor. To be honest I don’t know why Black Rain didn’t just kill him at the end. Guess he was just more noble than Seg.” The fem finished with a shrug. “Otherwise besides death he has a good number of blessings, most of which are common base blessings. Fire breath, lightening, fly, teleport, just the works.” She wasn’t sure how practiced he was with all of them nor was she really sure what other blessings he had but she was sure that having been around for a while, he probably collected a few more, it not many more than that.

She felt she had given him a start on that subject and tilted her head, clearly asking if he had anything else he wanted to talk to her about. It didn’t escape her notice that he was going to talk more, after he asked his questions that was. She wondered what it was, or if he was simply going to ask more questions.

At the end of Rebels answers he nodded his head with a grateful look in his eyes. Her information had proved to be very satisfying and he was very glad he had asked her now. What worried him though, was the fact that Seg indeed had the one blessing he feared; death. He would have to think of some way to avoid it.. Yet how? How on earth could he stop the brute from using that on him to end his life? He surely would look stupid indeed then. No, he would have to find a way to get a counter blessing in his defence. He certainly didn’t want to be killed- Strider was a cautious and quite sensible and practical brute in the end and knew that the battle for Fire could indeed be the end for him. He knew more about Fire’s history now, thanks to Rebel, and he just wished he knew how to repay her. He knew the ups and downs of the pack he wished to take over and even knew some weaknesses of the Alpha. He was clearly in deep dept to Rebel and he trusted her very strongly now. Even though he was almost certain that she didn’t want anything in return except seeing Seg thrown of the throne Strider felt as if she deserved something though. But he just couldn’t think of anything. Most males would thank females with affectionate gestures but surely he could not do that; he was indeed handsome but he held too much pride and didn’t know just how simply dashing looking he was in fear of losing his reputation of being a rather scary outlaw.

But Strider clearly liked Rebel. He did his best to hide it but the truth was it was near impossible. With pursed lips he finally decided to come out and tell her outright what he wanted. He wanted her. Not her information; that had proved useful to him but he would give it all up to be with this mysterious female. Strider knew nothing about love and the sorts but he knew that he had strong feelings for her and it was making him confused and un-concentrated. If all he was thinking about was her in the middle of a battle, who knew where he could go wrong? He was scared of his feelings and what they could do to hinder him.
Rebel. He gave an anxious, awkward cough and a pause, before he blurted a lot of things out. If my actions have not proved… clear enough already, I want you to know something. His eyes widened as he looked her straight in the eyes, and it was as if his blind eye was also seeing her. Strider inhaled the fems scet. I’ve fallen for you, Rebel. And I like you, a lot. He gave a step forward so that they were almost touching and he gave a little sigh, his tail wagging happily. If he was put down though, he would at least have a chance to not think of her when fighting Seg. But he would much rather she admitted she too had feelings for him. He had no idea if she had but he had always been blunt and brave. Would you do me the honour of being my mate? He walked to her side and whined softly, brushing against her body.

Rebel could tell he was very pleased with the information she had given him. The back story the way he thinks and acts, his powers... She was worried about him, in all truthfulness she was hoping that maybe he would back down and stay away from Seg, but it figured he wouldn't. Rebel gave a bit of a chuckle when his visage only became more determined. Well she could try to be hopeful at least, but hopefully he knew what he needed to do to get that blessing. A phoenix. They were probably the only sure-win way of getting a death stop blessing, something if Seg chose to use Blessings, would prove to be very useful. Secretly Rebel wondered what other blessings Strider had gained in the last few months. Hopefully some good ones, ones that could handle some that were used over and over for battles in the past. Rebel could only hope that things would go well. She worried that Strider might die in the struggle, if he did well she would leave Fire. She was sick of Seg being ruler, but not at the same time. She could help her Grandfather by joining Wind Gale and do the same thing.

Her mind turned to that for a time, she wondered just what Knives would think if Strider won. It would depend… Would Strider carry the pack to war like Knives wanted Seg to do? Or would Knives simply have his assassins come in and kill him, so that Seg might take over once more? She hoped that at the very least Strider might comply with Knives. He would create a stronger pack and that Knives would favor him over Seg. She shook her head; Rebel could never quite know exactly what her Grandfather would do. He was mad, but very intelligent; he knew what he was doing in order to get what he wanted. Hopefully Strider wouldn’t hinder that. Even if he defeated Seg his challenges wouldn’t be over.

So deep in thought about her grandfather she almost didn’t hear the brute as he stated her name. The tone however made her ears perk and her silver eyes refocus on his mismatched gold and pale blue. She raised a brow, clearly wondering what was with the weird tones, but then he continued and the fem felt her hard to an odd combination of dropping and wanting to leap from her chest at the same time. Strider had just made her life more difficult. Before this she could have just kidded herself into believing he held no feelings for her, denied the subtle hints he had given here and that day when they had met at the Mate Finding grounds. Now however there was no tricking her mind and she would have to choose. Her face was neutral as he asked her to be his mate, and then her eyes went away. How could she respond to this, without completely putting him off? Rebel wanted to be with him but at the same time she didn’t want to be tied down by the commitment.

“Strider.” She started trying to put all of her rather confused grouping of emotions into his name, “I would like to be but, I can’t.” Her eyes returned to the brute’s own mismatched gaze, truly feeling back for denying him, “But I do like you, a lot. You are the first brute I have ever considered taking as my own.” She touched her muzzle to his cheek, “I-“ Rebel stopped not sure about what she should say now, “I will consider being your mate only after you kicked that old dog’s tail out of Fire.” this way if he died she would not be committed to a dead male, and also Knives might not kill Strider if one of his favorite followers had picked him as her mate. This way he would be safe and she would be safe, and if he took fire her commitment to him, and Knives would be the same thing. But of course the way she phrased it would mean he would win. He had too for both of them, it was another reason for him to push himself to the next level and he wouldn’t be distracted by her either.

Best for both worlds one would say.
